The section for Luminescence Physics and Technologies (LUMPHYS) at the Department of Physics, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applications for a 3-year PhD position. This position is funded under a European Research Council (ERC) advanced grant LUMIN (Illuminating charge transport in feldspar to measure rates of Earth surface processes). We are looking for a self-driven and innovative researcher with a passion for developing new computational tools and contributing to cutting-edge research at the intersection of Physics and Earth system science. Background and relevance of the project Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) is a multi-step phenomenon driven by the transport of electrons and holes across defects in the crystal lattice. Traditional models rely on simplified co...

This PhD scholarship is part of the Inverse Design of Optoelectronic Phosphosulfides (IDOL) project funded by the European Research Council. Our goal is to address a crucial scientific and technological challenge: How can we find the absolute best material for a desired application out of the enormous space of all possible materials, including the ones we haven’t yet discovered (trillions at least)? We will approach this question by working on a smaller-scale case study where we limit ourselves to one intriguing class of materials (phosphosulfides) and one important application (solar cells). Our team’s task then becomes: among all possible phosphosulfides, which one will convert light most efficiently into electricity? You will tackle this problem from a computational angle. You will have...

DTU Chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking highly motivated candidates for two PhD scholarships in the field of material science and catalytic CO2 conversion. The PhD scholarship is a three-year position starting in July 2025.Our research focuses on C1-chemistry and catalysis for the sustainable production of fuels and chemicals. The aim of the PhD projects is to synthesize materials that are highly active in selective catalytic CO2 hydrogenations.Your role will be to synthesize well-defined nanoparticle catalysts and test their activity in various gas-phase reactions, including reverse water-gas shift, dry reforming, and CO2 methanation. Furthermore, you characterize the materials using various ex-situ and in-situ techniques and draft scientific publications. As our new...
