Assistant Professor Position in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Syddansk Universitet
SDU Mechanical Engineering (SDU ME) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The position is available from January 1, 2027, with the specific start date to be agreed upon with the successful candidate. The candidate will join the maritime group at Mechanical Engineering, working within applied research in close collaboration with industry and other research groups. The candidate is expected to play an active role in the Maritime Center at SDU, contributing to research and administrative activities, including outreach to universities, industry, maritime educational institutes, authorities, and professional organizations. The successful candidate is expected to have an interest in dual-use research within the relevant research fields and to actively engage in outreach to other universities as well as the Danish Defence.
- Conduct research within naval architecture and marine engineering, focusing on data-driven operation of ships (energy efficiency, predictive maintenance, digital twins, machine learning, sensor data) or seakeeping and comfort onboard vessels (ship motion analysis, stability, vibration and noise reduction, human comfort).
- Play an active role in the Maritime Center at SDU, contributing to research and administrative activities.
- Engage in outreach to other universities, industry, maritime educational institutes, authorities, and professional organizations to establish and strengthen collaborative relationships.
- Actively engage in outreach to other universities as well as the Danish Defence, given SDU's defense-related research.
- Documented research experience in naval architecture and marine engineering / mechanical engineering
- Research experience in data-driven operation of ships (energy efficiency, predictive maintenance, digital twins, machine learning, sensor data)
- Research experience in seakeeping and comfort onboard vessels (ship motion analysis, stability, vibration and noise reduction, human comfort)
